Preparing Joget License For Server Migration

Preparing a Joget license before server migration ensures a smooth transition. Ensuring your license is valid and functional in the new server setup is essential for maintaining uninterrupted service and avoiding potential compliance and security issues. By following the provided guidelines, you can mitigate risks associated with server migration, such as downtime and data inconsistency, while ensuring that all aspects of Joget, including custom applications and integrations, perform optimally in the new environment.

Purpose of preparing the Joget license

  • Ensures Continuous Operation: By preparing the license in advance, you can avoid disruptions in your operations due to licensing issues. The permit must be valid on the new server to ensure all Joget workflows and applications continue functioning as expected.
  • Verifies Compatibility: This process includes testing the license on the new server setup, which helps confirm that all aspects of Joget, including custom applications and integrations, operate smoothly on the latest hardware or virtual environment.
  • Provides a Backup: Obtaining and testing the license before migration offers a backup option. If issues arise during migration, you will have the necessary license data and setup confirmed, allowing for quick resolution or rollback if required.

Benefits for Joget users

  • Seamless Transition: Ensure and test the license before migration to guarantee uninterrupted operation and functionality in your Joget applications. This smooth transition is important for maintaining business continuity.
  • Compliance and Security: Early preparation maintains compliance with licensing terms and enhances security by ensuring correct components licensing, avoiding using unauthorized versions that may expose the system to vulnerabilities.
  • Cost Efficiency: Preparing and testing the license in advance helps avoid potential costs related to extended downtime or troubleshooting due to licensing issues during server migration.
  • Flexibility and Scalability: This preparation allows confirmation that your current licenses will function in the new environment and enables procurement of additional licenses in advance if scalability is needed.

Server migration process

Prepare your Joget license to ensure a smooth transition during server migration. Follow these steps on the new server, which should mirror your current Joget setup:

  1. Install the enterprise edition of Joget that matches the target system on the new server.
  2. Use the same database as the target database to ensure consistency.
  3. Launch Joget on the new server, go to General Settings > License, and click the License: Joget DX Enterprise 8 link.
  4. Copy and submit the trial license request at the Joget License App for the required number of users.
  5. Paste the license string received via email within 24 hours to test the license's functionality.
  6. Store the email and license string securely on the migration date.

To ensure the system key remains valid, avoid making changes to the following components:

  • The name of the datasource (database).
  • The MAC address of the network interface.
  • The major Joget version (e.g., from v7 to v8).
  • The Joget edition (Enterprise/Professional edition).

By maintaining these elements, the system key will remain consistent both now and in the future, facilitating a seamless migration.
